CCTV cameras and aging population

CCTV cameras and aging population

It is becoming more apparent that Thailand is moving towards an aging society, similar to other countries in Southeast Asia. Based on the forecast by United Nations, baby boomers living in Southeast Asia will continue to age and by 2025, it is expected that the proportion of senior citizens (aged 65 and over) will increase by over 430%. Compared to the population data in 2000, elderly population in Thailand will grow at least 14% by 2022. Therefore, Thailand will fully become an aging society within the next 6 years.

As the aging society approaches, it is important for us to take precautions when looking after an elderly person. Even minor incidents, such as a slip or a trip, can lead to devastating consequences! So today, we would like to suggest ways to ensure a safer home for an elderly individual.

1) Create a safer environment around your home
• Ensure that the floor surface is flattened and level
• Use non-slip mats in bathrooms and ensure that the floor is always dry
• Always keep the hallways clear
• Use a sturdy railing and handle within the home (especially stairways and bathrooms)
• Keep the hallways lit

2) Wear safe attires (for instance, trousers or skirts that are not too long and slip-resistant shoes)

3) Eat healthy and don’t forget to take medications regularly. Also, make sure that the medications are easy to reach/access

4) Do exercises such as Tai Chi or balancing exercise to strengthen muscles

5) Install CCTV cameras that support live previews via mobile phones for effective monitoring and immediate response in case of an emergency
