Which CCTV cable is right for you?

CCTV cables transmit video signals from security cameras to the video recorders.  Coaxial cables are often used when installing CCTV cameras. They can be sub-divided into 3 main types:

1.RG6 Cable

RG6 are commonly used to transmit signal for various devices, such as televisions, satellites, and CCTV systems. RG6 cables with a 95% shield should be selected for CCTV systems to maintain the conductor’s integrity and image quality. For the signal distance of 400-700 meters, RG6 with copper shield is recommended. However, for a distance of less than 400 meters, aluminum shield can be used. Furthermore, RG6 cables come in black and white. White RG6 cables are suited for indoor settings because exposure to sunlight can cause wear and tear in the insulating layers. Black RG6 cables are used for both outdoor and indoor sites. However, they are more expensive than white colored cables due to their ability to withstand sunlight.

2.RG59 Cable

RG59 cables are smaller in diameter compared to RG6 cables; hence, we see a decrease in their conductivity and transmission distance.

3.RG11 Cable

RG11 cables can transmit video signals up to 1,000 meter due to better insulation and a larger diameter.

Note: For transmission distance of over 1,000 meters, an accessory called BOOSTER is required to amplify the signal.

This table shows about the cable line signal distance that suitable with CCTV

Types of cable Transmission Distance
RG59 0-200 meters
RG6 0-700 meters
RG11 700-1,000 meters
